The iPod Touch/iPhone Netbook

The iPhone Netbook?

Apple announced their upcoming OS upgrade for the iPhone and iPod Touch today and the things that got my attention were their adding of background processing and Bluetooth to the iPod Touch. It’s really now a small Macbook running OS X with a large app library.

So it’s only a matter of time before some Bluetooth keyboard developer will support the platform and not a stretch to think some case manufacturer will create a clam-shell case to enclose both to create an iPod Touch/iPhone Netbook.

Yea, I’d buy one of those… and if they do a 10 inch model, all the better.

  1. Hate to nitpick, Tim, but in the Q&A yesterday Phil specifically mentioned that they were not implementing the Bluetooth HID profile necessary to support input devices like keyboards. Which is not to say that something couldn’t be ginned up using the dock connector and the new APIs, but it’s probably not going to happen over Bluetooth.

  3. @Cody: Crap, I knew there had to be a snag someplace. Let’s hope they allow Bluetooth keyboards at some point or do an eMate-style version of the iPod Touch.
