Using Advertising Manager With Thesis Theme

Advertising Manager is one of my go-to Wordpress plugins but until this week I had never used it for banners in the content area of a blog using Thesis theme. The sidebar widgets included with the plugin make it easy to add banners but in order to present banners in the content areas you need to use a custom function.

After messing around with shortcodes for far too long I found how to add banners via PHP and included the following into my custom_functions.php:

This gave me banners above and below the post content areas but if you know how hooks work you can use this method to put ads anywhere you want. As long as you use the same entry in Advertising Manager and just change the code when you rotate ads, you don’t have to touch your custom functions again. Nice.
