NotchUp: Turning The Job Search Upside Down
I received my second invite to the notchup.com private beta this morning and decided to sign-up since I’m in job hunt mode again. I have to say that this service seems like a brilliant idea at first — getting paid for each job interview — but I’m not sure if this will attract enough attention to pay off for employers. Once you sign up, you can import your LinkedIn profile...

Twitter: Dysfunctional Chatroom or River of Ideas?
Over the past week I’ve unsubscribed from hundreds of blogs to make my life a little more manageable. Between two Google Reader accounts I followed nearly 500 feeds. The signal to noise ratio was too low so I cut back to 65 feeds on each reader (a somewhat arbitrary number but seems to work well for me). Since then, I’m able to finish my blog reading in a much shorter period of time...

I'm a New Media Entrepreneur
One of the podcasters I really admire is Michael Geoghegan. He encouraged me in late 2004 to start my wine podcast while he was creating Grape Radio. Since then he’s always been responsive to my questions and great to spend time with at events like the Portable Media Expo. Since I didn’t attend PME last year, I was very much looking forward to listening to his speech, particularly...

Outline of Stevenote Posted? Hardly...
By way of Steve Rubel’s Tweet, I read this post about how an outline of Steve Jobs’ Macworld keynote speech was posted on Wikipedia. They even repost the outline for us to get a 24 hour head start on all the announcements. The only problem is it’s probably a hoax. That’s because Steve Jobs is not done with his speech yet; I bet he has yet to even fire up Keynote on his...

Macworld Predictions
It’s fun to make predictions about new technology, particularly with secretive Apple, Inc. With the demise of Think Secret, the rumor mills have been not as active as normal during the run-up to next week’s Macworld Expo. We’ve seen rumors of tablets, smaller Macbooks and 3G iPhone’s but I don’t think we’ll see any of these things next week. I believe this...

Erased? My Ass!
OK, so now Scoble is on the warpath against Facebook for “erasing” him after he hacked their service. If I, or any number of non A-list numskulls did the same, nobody would be the wiser. But Robert is cut from a different cloth and is now complaining about data deleted once his Facebook account was restored because HE’S A FREAKIN’ FAMOUS BLOGGER! Note to the folks at Plaxo:...

Blu-ray Wins Format Wars
We will look back in a year or two and point to today as the day Sony won the battle with HD-DVD. Their signing of an exclusive with Warner Bros. for their Blu-ray disc format puts one of the final nails in the coffin for Toshiba and their partners. All that Sony has to do now is match prices for HD-DVD players and their victory will be complete. Back in the day, I bought a Sony Beta VCR and...

Yahoo! Shortcuts Ate My Post
Since I posted a while back about the new Yahoo! Shortcuts Wordpress plug-in I thought I would follow-up and explain why I turned it off last week. In a nutshell, I took 15 minutes to write up a short review of my new Sansa TakeTV the other day and noticed that Yahoo! Shortcuts found 7 links. That was the most of any post I’d done to date but I clicked the review button primarily to find a...

Facebook A Roach Motel?
Seems Robert Scoble has been locked out of Facebook after running a Plaxo sync script yesterday. Although it will be interesting to watch this story develop, I think the implications for companies using Facebook is the real story here. As I wrote last month, I think companies should use existing social networks like Facebook to engage their customers and not create their own walled gardens. We...
